Linville Ridge Golf Club won Golf Inc.’s “2009 Renovation of the Year” award. Bobby Weed Golf Design completely renovated this mountainous layout into a rollicking, mountain course that provides dramatic views and vistas. BWGD has since provided on-going design and maintenance support to the club.

Challenge
At 4,949 feet above sea level, Linville Ridge is the highest elevated golf course east of the Mississippi River. Working in the mountainous region of western North Carolina, severe winter weather and rocky soils provided many challenges during construction.
Approach
Weed’s team implemented numerous upgrades, keenly focused on improving the strategic design and visual interest of Linville Ridge’s mountainous layout.
All bunkers were reconfigured and reimagined, creating faces with a rustic finish of wispy, fine fescue. These same fescue grasses were introduced on slopes and out-of-play areas, which reduced maintenance requirements. They also increased visual contrast and texturing.
Tree removal was also paramount, which opened up long vistas of the surrounding mountains.

Linville Ridge is now an unrivaled golf experience with panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
